FAQs

What are RAYENA digital patterns?

RAYENA patterns are digital sewing and patternmaking files designed for sewists, patternmakers, designers, and students.

Depending on the product, files may be provided as PDF, Projector, or Adobe Illustrator (AI) files. Digital patterns can be downloaded and used whenever you need them, making it easy to print, project, edit, or reuse your pattern.

No physical pattern will be mailed to you.

Do RAYENA patterns include sewing instructions?

Yes. Brief sewing instructions are included to help you sew the sloper and make your muslin sample.

Since RAYENA sloper patterns are designed as patternmaking foundations, the instructions focus on constructing the sloper/muslin rather than teaching you how to manipulate the sloper into different designs. One should have a basic understanding of pattern manipulation and garment construction if you plan to use the sloper to create your own designs. If you get stuck or have questions while working with your pattern, just reach out — I’m happy to help!

Do the patterns include seam allowances?

No. RAYENA patterns do not include seam allowances unless specifically stated in the product description.

Patterns are provided without seam allowances so you can add the seam allowance that is appropriate for your preferred sewing method, fabric, and construction technique. This is especially useful for patternmakers who want complete control over their pattern development and construction details.

What sizes are included?

RAYENA patterns include a full range of sizes, depending on the product.

Our standard size ranges are:

  • Women's & Men's: XS–6X

  • Children's: 2–18 (4-18 Years)

  • Infant/Toddler's: NB-4T

How do I choose my size?

Please use the measurement chart provided with the pattern rather than choosing a size based only on your usual ready-to-wear size. Body measurements can vary considerably between brands and garments, so measuring yourself and comparing your measurements with the RAYENA size chart will give you a better starting point.

Will the pattern fit me exactly?

A pattern size is a starting point, not a guarantee of a perfect individual fit. Body proportions vary from person to person, so you may need to make fitting adjustments depending on your measurements, posture, proportions, and the intended fit of the garment. For slopers and blocks, creating a test garment or muslin before cutting your final fabric is strongly recommended.

What is a layered PDF pattern?

A layered PDF contains all available sizes in one file, with each size placed on its own layer. This allows you to turn individual size layers on or off in Adobe Acrobat Reader and print only the size or sizes you need. This makes multi-size patterns much easier to work with and reduces visual clutter.

What page sizes are included?

Depending on the product, RAYENA PDF patterns may include:

US Letter- 8.5 x 11 inches (215.9 x 279.4 mm)
A4- 8.27 × 11.69 inches (210 × 297 mm)
A0- 33.1 x 46.8 inches (841 x 1189 mm)

Letter and A4 are intended for printing on a home or office printer.

A0 is a large-format file intended for printing at a copy shop or with a large-format/plotter printer.

How do I print a RAYENA PDF pattern?

RAYENA PDF patterns should be opened and printed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. When printing Letter or A4 files at home, make sure the printer is set to Actual Size / 100% scale and that options such as "Fit to Page" or "Scale to Fit" are turned off. Always print the included test square or measurement reference first and check it before printing the entire pattern. For additional instructions go here

Can I print only the size I need?

Yes. You can select the size layer(s) you want to see and print. You can also keep multiple sizes visible when you need to grade or compare between sizes.

What is a Projector File?

A Projector File is a full-scale digital pattern designed to be projected directly onto fabric, paper, or another working surface.

Instead of printing and assembling dozens of pages, you can project the pattern at full scale and trace or cut directly from the projected image.

Projector files are particularly useful for sewists, patternmakers, and designers who frequently work with full-size patterns.

What features are included in RAYENA Projector Files?

RAYENA Projector Files are designed with practical projector use in mind and may include:

  • Layered sizes

  • High-contrast lines for improved visibility

  • Large, easy-to-read pattern labels

  • 1-inch and 4-cm grid options

  • Calibration grid for projector setup

  • Grainlines

  • Cut-on-fold information where applicable

  • Full-size pattern pieces

  • Additional space around pattern pieces

  • Space between pieces for tracing and pattern modifications

What is an Adobe Illustrator (AI) pattern file?

An Adobe Illustrator file is an editable digital pattern file designed for users who work with Adobe Illustrator. Unlike a standard PDF, an editable AI file allows you to manipulate pattern pieces digitally, making it useful for patternmakers and designers who want to develop, modify, or create designs digitally. Adobe Illustrator is required to open and edit these files.

Are Adobe Illustrator files included with the PDF?

Not necessarily. AI files are offered separately on applicable products. Please check the individual product listing to see which file formats are included.

How do I download my pattern?

Once your payment has been successfully processed, your digital files will be available through your order confirmation/download information.

We recommend downloading your files using a desktop or laptop computer.

Can I download my pattern on my phone?

RAYENA digital pattern files are intended to be downloaded and accessed using a computer.

If you do not see your download links on your phone, please access your order from a desktop or laptop computer.

Where can I find my download links?

Your download information is provided with your order confirmation.

If you cannot locate your files, first check your order confirmation email and your account/order information from a computer.

If you are still unable to access your files, please contact me and we'll help you locate them.

Why is my PDF password protected?

RAYENA patterns are available in different digital formats:

  • PDF Print — for printing on Letter, A4, and/or A0

  • Projector File — for projector use

  • Editable Adobe Illustrator (.AI) — for editing and pattern manipulation

If you purchased the PDF Print and/or Projector version, those PDF files are password protected because they are intended for printing or projecting, not for editing.

The editable Adobe Illustrator (.AI) version is available separately for customers who want to digitally modify and manipulate the pattern.

Can I modify a RAYENA pattern?

Yes. RAYENA sloper patterns are designed to give you a starting point for developing your own designs. You may modify a pattern for your personal use, including making fitting adjustments, changing design details, or developing your own garment. Please note that the original RAYENA digital files may not be redistributed or shared.

Can I use RAYENA patterns for teaching?

Yes, with a RAYENA Teaching License. A teaching license allows instructors and educational programs to use eligible RAYENA patterns with their students under the terms of the license. The purchase of an individual pattern does not automatically include teaching or classroom distribution rights. Please see Teaching License information for details.

Can I share or distribute the digital pattern?

No. RAYENA digital patterns are licensed for the purchaser's permitted use only. You may not share, upload, email, copy, redistribute, resell, or otherwise distribute the original digital pattern files or printed copies of the pattern. If you need to use RAYENA patterns in a classroom or educational setting, please purchase the appropriate Teaching License.

Can I sell garments made using a RAYENA pattern?

Yes, you may sell garments made from a RAYENA sloper that you have modified into your own design.

However, you may not sell garments made using the RAYENA sloper exactly as provided, without design modification.

The sloper is intended to be used as a foundation for developing your own designs. Once you have modified the sloper to create your own garment design, you may sell the finished garments.

The RAYENA pattern itself may not be resold, shared, copied, or redistributed.

What if I have trouble downloading my files?

Please don't purchase the pattern again. Contact me with your order information and a description of the problem, and I'll help you access your files.

Can I get a refund for a digital pattern?

Because digital patterns are downloadable products, refunds are generally not available once the files have been downloaded. If you experience a problem with your order or receive an incorrect or defective file, please contact me so I can help resolve the issue.
